Now you can edit patient information after a referral is submitted
Every practice has experienced it.
A referral comes in with limited information—or maybe there's a typo, a missing phone number, or a patient who needs a record updated after your team speaks with them.
Until now, those situations often meant adding notes and hoping someone remembered to reference them later.
Not anymore.
We're excited to introduce Editable Patient Information, a new feature that allows your team to update patient details after a referral has been submitted, making follow-up easier, records more accurate, and your workflow more efficient.

Complete Missing Patient Information
One of the most common scenarios happens when a referral arrives without contact information.
Your team reaches out to the referring office, identifies the patient, and gathers the missing details. Previously, that information often ended up buried in a notes section, making it difficult to search for the patient or use the information throughout Bright Referral.
Now, simply click Edit Info and enter the information you've collected.
Once saved:
The patient's profile is immediately updated.
The referral becomes searchable using the new patient information.
Your team has a complete and organized referral record moving forward.

Correct Information as You Learn More
Not every update is about missing information.
Sometimes a patient's name needs to be corrected, a phone number changes, or additional details become available after speaking with the family.
With Editable Patient Information, you can quickly update the referral so your records stay accurate and your team always has the most current information available.
Built-In Accountability
Transparency is an important part of maintaining accurate records.

That's why every edit is automatically documented within Bright Referral.
Whenever patient information is updated:
The patient profile indicates that the information was added or edited by an account user.
The referral's activity timeline records exactly when the update occurred.
Your team has a clear history of changes, creating accountability without adding extra work.
This provides confidence that everyone is working from the same, most up-to-date information.

Works With Your Existing Referral Forms
The information you can edit is based on the fields you've chosen for each Referral Source's contact form.
For example, if one referral source collects a date of birth and another doesn't, you'll see different editable fields accordingly.
This gives every practice the flexibility to collect—and update—the information that makes the most sense for each referral source.
Pair It with "No Contact Information" Filtering
This feature works especially well alongside Bright Referral's No Contact Information activity filter.

You can quickly identify referrals that arrived without patient contact details, reach out to the referring office to gather the missing information, then update the referral record in just a few clicks.
Instead of losing track of incomplete referrals, your team can turn them into fully actionable patient records.
Better Information Leads to Better Follow-Up
The easier it is to maintain accurate referral information, the easier it is to provide an exceptional patient experience.
Editable Patient Information gives your team the flexibility to improve referral records as new information becomes available while maintaining a complete history of every change.
It's another way Bright Referral helps practices spend less time managing data; and more time connecting with patients and converting referrals into appointments.
